Transport

This half term we are learning about Transport. Our topic is led by History.

In History, we will comparing old and new transport and be finding out about significant individuals from the past. Such as; Amelia Earhart, the Wright Brothers, Christopher Columbus and  George Stevenson. Also our local aviation hero Hilda Hewlett, who we will be finding out about on our school trip to Brooklands Museum. Through finding out about these individuals we will learn about events beyond our living memory that are significant.

In English, we will be using picture books that are linked to transport to support and inspire our writing. We started off our topic with a visit from 'The Naughty Bus', who trashed our classroom! The children wrote wonderful wanted posters for the bus and used lots of description in their writing. They were really keen to find him.

In Mathematics, we follow the White Rose scheme and teach in blocks. This half term we will be learning about place value and addition and subtraction.

In DT, we are learning to design make and evaluate, we will be making our own vehicles. Keep an eye on our photo gallery to see our wonderful work.

In Science, our topic is plants (not linked to ur topic). We will observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants. We will also find out and describe how plants need water, light and suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy.

In Computing, we are learning about technology in our lives. We will be recognising common uses of information technology both around and beyond school. We will also be learning how to log on to the laptops and use a simple program called Purple Mash.

In RE our topic is beginnings, Judaism and signs and symbols. We follow the 'Come and See' scheme of work.

Our Trip to Brooklands Museum will take place on Wednesday 3rd of October. We will be able to learn about significant historical events in our locality. Find out about Hilda Hewlett, make our own loopy gliders and also see old transport on the grounds too. We are really looking forward to this trip.

To end our topic, on Tuesday the 16th October, we are hosting an airport day at school for Year 1 and Year 2. The children will be able to meet and and ask questions to a range of airport and aviation staff, such as; security, finance, cabin crew and a pilot. We will end the day with our very own flight in 'The Space'. Lets hope we all remember our passports!
