Monday 11th January

Good morning Year 3!

I hope that your first few days of home learning went well and you are adapting ok. Let me know if you are struggling with how things are and I can try and help you.

I will give a summary of the day's lessons on this page, so it would be great if you could start your day by checking here, before joining us on Teams.  This will give you a chance to get all your equipment and books to hand.  I am looking forward to seeing lots of your work and I will explain this further to you. Hard copies of everything you need can be found as an attachment below. In time, I hope to send these materials in advance, on One Drive.

Today on the menu we have:

Early Work - please make sure this morning that you do some quiet reading of any book you have at home, of your own choice, and record this in your reading journal. If your reading journal is at school, let me know and I can try and return it to you - the same as any pencil cases that have been left. Ask your parent to send me a quick email to let me know.  In the meantime, just note down any reading that you do, on a piece of paper.

Maths - Learning Objective – ‘I can Multiply by 4.’  I will work through examples in the live session.  There is a Powerpoint for you to follow and a worksheet to complete and stick in your maths book. If you cannot print, you could copy the questions from the screen and complete in maths book. For our live session, please have scrap paper and a pencil. Please also have to hand a collection of items that you can use as counters (dried pasta pieces OR counters OR small lego bricks, or something similar etc, so you can make groups of 4)

English – Please practise this week’s spelling words (Week 2 on the attachment below). If you have been given other words to learn, then you should practise these instead. I would like everybody to write sentences in their exercise books. Write a sentence for each word. Remember to consider neat handwriting, the correct punctuation needed and your best spelling, when you do this. I will demonstrate how to present this neatly in our Teams session in the middle of the day. For this session you will need scrap paper and a pencil.

Please learn and write a sentence for each word.

Topic - Our new topic is 'Secrets of the Sands' and we will be learning more about the Ancient Egyptians. Please do a front cover for your lined exercise book, titled 'Secrets of the Sands.' I will explain this further at our afternoon Teams session. For this task you will need a plain piece of paper and some colouring pencils or pens.

I am looking forward to working with you this week! Have a fabulous day.

UPDATE 9.40am 11/1/21 I HAVE ADDED SOME EXTENSION SHEETS IF THEY ARE NEEDED. BASIC IF YOUR CHILD FINDS CONCEPT CHALLENGING, AND A CHALLENGE SHEET, IF YOUR CHILD HAS A STRONG UNDERSTANDING. Thank you.
