Year 2- St Bernadette
Saint Bernadette of Lourdes, a humble French peasant girl who saw apparitions of Mary in 1858 and was later canonised. As a saint, she is a role model of humility, faith, and compassion.
Bernadette Soubirous (later known as Saint Bernadette) was born in poverty in Lourdes, France, and was often in poor health.
In 1858, she reported seeing a "beautiful lady" in a grotto, which was later identified as the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Lady appeared to her 18 times, speaking to her and directing her to dig a spring, which became famous for its miraculous waters.
Despite the events, Bernadette remained humble, eventually becoming a nun at the convent in Nevers, where she died in 1879.
She was canonised a saint in 1933 by Pope Pius XI and is revered for her simple faith and selfless devotion to others.
